Regelbau 10 - Group Shelter with MG Nest - Wargaming 3D STL

The Regelbau 10 (constructed under the Limes program) is the most frequently built bunker variant on the West Wall with over 3000 units. The attached fighting room of the bunker could be adapted to the respective terrain conditions during construction and thus ensured a high level of flexibility during construction. The slit (size 60 x 35 cm) of the combat area, made of concrete and sheet steel, proved to be disadvantageous and was included in the planning of the west wall due to a shortage of materials.

Despite the diminished combat value of the Maulscharte, these installations offered better protection from the elements, artillery fire and rifle fire than field positions or shelters, which in regard to the morale of the soldiers was not insignificant.

In the military doctrine of the late 1930s, fighting outside the installations was favored to ensure the dynamism of one's troops. The attached combat room with its heavy machine gun was used on the one hand as an alarm post to protect the bunker crew and on the other hand it served as a combat post (usually flanking) for fire support of the bunker crew. Furthermore, the bunkers were designed in such a way that they could fire each other to cover each other and, with the combination of all loopholes, achieved an effective range of 360°.
